Why You Should Pursue An Online Associate's DegreeIn today’s world, it’s very difficult to get ahead if you don’t have some kind of education beyond the high school diploma. In fact, except for the rare successful entrepreneur or someone lucky enough to have a huge inheritance, it’s virtually impossible to count on some measure of increased income throughout your life without it. Also, people are living longer, providing more opportunities for people to acquire degrees before or after starting a family, after deciding to change careers or simply to lay a foundation for further study. Fields of study and technology are evolving so rapidly that an associate degree is a perfect way to enter a specialized career or to sharpen your skills in one you already have. For these reasons, and the fact that it’s now incredibly convenient thanks to the pervasiveness of the Internet, you should pursue an online Associates degree. A form of undergraduate degree, an associate program requires at least 60 semester hours and usually has three components: general education, major coursework, and elective classes. A full-time student can usually complete an associate degree in two years (or four semesters) and this is usually true of an online program as well as an in-class program. Associate degrees earned online are typically equivalent to those offered on traditional college campuses, but if a student wants, he or she has the flexibility to work at an accelerated pace and complete their degree faster than two years, or work at an extended timeframe and fulfill other obligations as well, like work or family life. Another reason to pursue an online associate degree program is if you are looking for a faster entry to a specific position in the job marketplace. Some vocations and fields have many levels of achievement, and working while you contemplate further education or on-the-job training is a good way to get some experience under your belt while you figure out the specifics. Basic occupational degrees might have some in-person participation labs, especially in the medical, electronics and mechanical fields, but many of the following can be completed almost entirely online: accounting, computer programming, computer science, hospitality, marketing, sales, and travel and tourism, just to name of few. And of course, there are the essential degrees in the arts, sciences and humanities that can provide a foundation for hundreds of types of Bachelor’s, Master’s and even doctorate degree choices if desired. Hundreds of online programs that have accreditation by the United States Department of Education are available. And, an online associate degree is a great way to explore whether a particular field or occupation is right for you before pursuing a more advanced degree or entering a particular job market.
